Tacoma, WA · Technical Program Manager & Workflow Architect

Tye Johnson

I take the fuzzy, cross-team, nobody-owns-this problem and turn it into a plan - then quietly build the machinery so nobody has to do the toil twice.

01 · About

Fourteen years, two companies.

The first seven were content, marketing, and paid media - learning what makes people click, and what makes them close the tab. The next seven, driving promotions for global initiatives and major launches with XBOX Digital Marketing.

Somewhere in there I became the person who asks "wait, who owns this?" in meetings, and then ends up owning it. I lead through influence, not org charts, and I'm an unapologetic spreadsheet enthusiast.

  • Ambiguity → action

    Fuzzy goals become sequenced plans.

  • Influence without authority

Alignment across teams that don't report to me.

  • Quiet automation

Tools that remove drudgery and then get out of the way.

Automation · XBOX Digital Marketing

XBOX homepage programming automation

Friction

Homepage updates across dozens of markets meant hand-copying content into sheets, one locale at a time. Slow, error-prone, and soul-eroding.

Machinery

Smart content automation across 45 markets - Excel/VBA logic auto-populates localized fields from a centralized loc-string reference. Content goes in once, comes out structured for every market.

Payoff

Forty-five markets of content with zero manual data entry and zero typo-driven incidents. Global scheduling went from minutes of manual DST math to a single input. And regional links get health-checked upstream, before production, so nothing goes live broken.

Program management · Global launches

Tentpole launches

Friction

Big launches, many teams, no single owner of the whole picture - and a clock that does not care. The fans are waiting and they don't care about missed deliverables.

Machinery

Coordinating across teams, channels, stakeholders, and time zones - tracking deliverables, chasing approvals, making pivots look easy - then putting it all together without crying.

Payoff

On time, on the date, zero launch-day disasters. The chaos stays backstage where it belongs. The fans are pleased.

Program management · Marquee events

The main events

Friction

Black Friday funds the quarter. XBOX Games Showcase is the year's biggest event. Both run on immovable dates with dozens of teams, external partners, and an audience that notices everything.

Machinery

Compressed the Black Friday planning cycle from 16 weeks to 8 - same deliverables, half the runway. Led Showcase support teamwide under strict security protocols. Single source of truth, hard gates, zero meeting theater.

Payoff

On the date, on the hour, zero disasters. The two biggest moments on the calendar, delivered like clockwork.

3/9 markets in office hours

Click any market to make it the source, then set a time there.

● office hours ● stretch it ● someone's asleep. The real version covered 45 markets.

03 · The pipeline

Automation proposes. I decide.

A personal n8n system for selective, human-gated opportunity triage. It doesn't apply to anything - it just makes sure my attention goes where it's actually worth going.

Webhook 1

Score

Each posting is scored against my own screens: scope, fit, values.

Human gate

Me

I review the shortlist. Nothing moves without my explicit approval.

Webhook 2

Tailor

On approval, it drafts a tailored resume and cover letter for me to edit. No hallucinating or inventing allowed.

Human gate

Me

Every draft is reviewed and edited by me before I hit submit. No auto-apply, anywhere.

04 · Hacker Labs & Side Quests

The nerdy fun corner.

Headliner · 2D platformer

Rejection Quest

A platformer about the job hunt - dodge auto-replies, jump over ghosting, and collect "we'll keep your resume on file." Built for fun, catharsis, and the bit.

Maker labs

When I'm not automating spreadsheets, I'm making physical things. Current residents of my desk: Honkster Chief (the XBOX goose) and Darkside (the Seahawks goose, removable helmet included). Also: 3D-printed bookstack planters - hand-painted, Cricut-detailed spines, full nerdery.

A very Star Wars Christmas

I engineered an epic rotating Star Wars Christmas tree - floating platforms, dueling hand-painted 3D-printed Yoda and Darth Vader, all scored to the Imperial March on loop. May the Force be with your holidays.
